Voice of the Martyrs
Topsail Baptist Church seeks to fulfill our Lord's commands as directed in Heb 13:3 " Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body".
One of the ways we do this is by embracing and supporting Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) through our prayers and contributions. Our relationship with VOM is a constant reminder for us of the modern day persecution, torture, and death that many of our Christian Brothers and Sisters are suffering everyday for their belief in Jesus Christ. Topsail Baptist's outreach with VOM helps supply survivors with everyday day needs like shelter, food, and medical supplies.
We also provide spiritual support through letters & photos, and scripture verses sent from our church children (i.e. Matt 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven). Our goal at Topsail Baptist Church is to encourage persecuted Christians by letting them know we care, & most of all that God cares, as well as to make sure they know that they are not forgotten.
Matt 25:40 Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Dear Church,
Each November Engage, AFA's outreach to millennials, does an Orange Letter Campaign to focus on the persecuted church in a specific country around the world. It is a week to give you a tangible way to encourage those who are being persecuted. 1 Corinthians 12:26 says, "If one member suffers, all suffer together."
You can write a prayer and/or a word of encouragement that will be translated into the original language of the targeted people group and then hand delivered through our partnership with Uncharted. Here is a look back over the past 3 years.
- In 2016, Engage Magazine/AFA joined with Uncharted Ministries to deliver letters of encouragement and prayer to the families of 20 Christians who were beheaded in Egypt. 3,000 letters poured in.
- In 2017, Engage Magazine/AFA and Uncharted Ministries, Syrian pastors under fire and in the path of radical terrorist groups received hand-delivered letters.
- In 2018, Engage Magazine/AFA and Uncharted Ministries once again joined together to have letters delivered to Christian North Korean defectors.
This year from November 26 to November 30, Engage Magazine focus is the persecuted Christian widows in Nigeria. The Fulani Herdsmen, a Muslim terrorist group, has ravaged their land, burning churches and villages to the ground, kidnapping women and girls, and leaving many without husbands. The Nigerian widow situation is one of the most severe examples of Christian persecution in the world today.
We want to invite you to join us in solidarity with these women, our sisters in Christ, and let them know they are neither forgotten nor alone. We are asking for letters filled with Scripture, prayer, and encouragement. If you would like to write a letter but do not know what to say, pray and spend time in your Bible. More than anything, these women need the Word of God to speak to their hearts. To send your letter, simply email it to orange@afa.net and it will be translated into Nigerian and hand delivered. (If your email client doesn't open automatically when clicking the link above, you may need to build an email using your personal email.)
During this next week, we will offer more information on the Nigerian situation, as well as answers to some tough questions about persecution. You can also find many articles on the landscape of the Nigerian church and culture at engagemagazine.net. If our mission resonates with you, please consider supporting our work financially with a tax-deductible donation. The easiest way to do that is through online giving. It is easy to use, and most of all, it is secure.
